The boxes were used to hold and carry lime which was mixed with areca nut and then chewed.
Both boxes are of half moon shape with raised edges with push on fitted covers. One is embossed with panels repeated around the edge and the other with a pierced design of scrolling leaves. One with a flat base and the other with a recessed base engraved with a small cat or dog shaped figure with further markings. One of several examples we will be offering from an extensive collection of silver originating from the Middle and Far East.
Provenance: From the extensive collection of a distinguished lady acquired in the Middle East and fresh to the market.
