Like other African everyday ceramics, Bamileke storage pots are revered for their simple forms yet astonishing beauty. Each is hand shaped and fired in the open. They are generally stacked and used regularly for cooking over fire. The potter incised dimples and bands on the surface of this fine example to give the user a better grip. These markings create rich texture that only improved with years of use. The sculptural flared rim shows expected signs of wear.
