Set “You and I” Satsuma Porcelain, Dragon and wise men motif, 19th century. XX – Japan
Wonderful Satsuma porcelain “You and I” composed of a teapot, milk jug and sugar bowl service, and two cup and saucer stands, all in reddish tones.
It is an exquisite set made with a refined technique, since the paste used is almost eggshell thick, so much so that it tends to be translucent. Originally popular patterns of satsuma porcelain include floral and geometric designs. However, starting in the 19th century, the theme expanded to include landscapes, traditional and mythological scenes, and decorations with enamel and gold, as is the case in this case.
The motif of the ornament is the dragon, which is repeated in each piece, a mythological being with deep roots in oriental culture, a symbol of power, nobility and honor. The most wonderful thing about this set is that the handles are the body of the dragon, and the mouthpiece is its head, where the liquid comes out. In addition, wise men and scholars appear, a typical motif of Japanese art. The ornament is completed with polychrome and hand enamelling, achieving relief through it. The bright and elegant colors are enhanced with gold. Each piece has a stamp on the base.
They are in good condition, they have no marks or hair. Three more dishes are given away.
