1980s 22 – 24k Gold Nugget Fringe Necklace on 18k Gold Italian Chain

This 18k gold Italian chain contains a selection of stunning 22-24k gold nuggets. The nuggets graduate in size, with the largest nuggets at the center of the chain; each has a unique shape and the variations of sizes and forms complement each other nicely. They hang from an 18k gold biker chain with faceted links; the chain is heavy enough to balance the nuggets, and is long enough to create a flowing, drapey look that is perfect layered with other necklaces. The nuggets dangle from the chain to create a beautiful flutter of light and movement.

Gold nuggets are formed by hot fluids flowing through cracks deep in the Earth’s crust. Weather eventually releases the nuggets into streams and bodies of water, where they are shaped by erosion and time. The free form dimensions of gold nuggets are organic and poetic, a beautiful display of gold in its natural, unaltered state.

The chain is marked on the last link with 750, Italy, Balestra, and a maker’s mark. It has a sturdy lobster clasp that also has a maker’s mark.

The necklace contains 29 gold nuggets ranging in size from approximately 1/2” x 3/8” to 1/4” x 5/16”. The chain is 30” long and the links are 1/8” wide. It weighs 60.34 grams.
