A Burmese hand-carved wooden puppet show sign from the 19th century, with red and black painted accents as well as puppets, architecture and foliage carved in low relief. This Burmese 19th century sign was hand-carved in Burma (nowadays called Myanmar) for a puppet show. This tall panel is entirely carved in low-relief and enhanced by red and black painted accents. The sign depicts two traditional Burmese puppets carved with many exquisite details such as their clothes and jewelries. In the upper triangular section, a house is carved, perhaps the backstage. Foliage completes these adornments. The slightly uneven lines reveal the piece was handcrafted. Thanks to its traditional and impressive aspect, this 19th century Burmese hand-carved puppet show sign will make for an unusual decorative item in most rooms, perhaps placed in a child’s room or a living room where its combination of elegance and exoticism would add an original touch.
