Semi Circular Gold and Glass Wall Light by Gaetano Sciolari, 1960s

The applique is composed of a satin and shiny golden metal structure; the structure is made up of shiny ovals and satin-finished canes. Glass lenses have been hung under the satin-finished canes, while triangular glass slats have been positioned above. The curved front structure through two arms is anchored to a cup which in turn is anchored to the wall. Above the structure there are 2 light bulbs.

After an initial training as a film director, followed by a degree in architecture, Gaetano Sciolari (1927-1994) took over the management of the family firm founded in Rome in 1892, Sciolari Illuminazione, following the death of his father in 1949. The brand expands its market by starting to sell lamps in Europe and the United States, and in the 1950s Gaetano also began designing for Stilnovo, creating his most famous lights. His luxurious multi-light chandeliers with a futuristic appearance, which create interesting optical effects and which combine shiny and satin metals such as brass and chromed metal, reached more and more popularity in the United States during the 1970s, years in which his style turns towards aesthetics inspired by Art Deco and Space Age. Founder and president of the association of Italian lighting manufacturers, Sciolari is now a highly sought-after name for its collectibles, including the Habitat, Cultura and Futura series.
