Vintage Burmese Kalaga, Mandalay.
A wall hanging embroidered tapestry inspired from a scene in the Jataka Tales. The embroidery depicts a prince riding a white elephant led by an attendant holding a muti-colored feed bag with three devotional figures kneeling below. The center panel is flanked by two celestial kinnari on either side. All densely embroidered, quilted and couched with metallic covered threads, mirrored glass beads and sequins. The textile is backed and has a maroon fabric frame suitable for hanging.
Condition: Minor glass cabochon bead loss otherwise excellent condition.
