Two antique Burmese silver basket shaped boxes, possibly Betel containers, one with a pierced scroll leaf design and the other with a molded basket weave design dating from the 19th or early 20th Century.
Betel boxes were used to hold and carry lime which was mixed with areca nut and then chewed.
Both boxes are of tall round shape with four corner molded feet. One is molded with a basket weave patterning while the other has scroll leaf designs and both with push on rounded covers molded with floral designs with the bases molded with basket weave patterning. Neither is marked. One of several examples we will be offering from an extensive collection of silver originating from the Middle and Far East.
Provenance: From the extensive collection of a distinguished lady acquired in the Middle East and fresh to the market.
In good condition with wear associated with age and use.
